Medical Legal Experience

Dr. Romano opened solo private practice in the Upper Ohio Valley in 1982. He first became involved in the medical/legal area in 1987. Since that time he has evaluated and treated many victims of personal injury, typically individuals who have been in motor vehicle accidents. He has also evaluated medical records for the purposes of litigation in the areas of personal injury and medical malpractice. He has worked with attorneys who have represented the plaintiff and also attorneys who have represented the defense.

Dr. Romano is in the unique position to advise attorneys with regards to soft tissue injuries, particularly myofascial pain syndromes and fibromyalgia since he has actively done research in both of these areas, was a member of the American College of Rheumatology criteria committee which published the criteria for fibromyalgia in 1990 and has been a participant in both the 1994 Vancouver and 2001 Toronto Fibromyalgia Consensus Conferences.

Furthermore, Dr. Romano has published in the legal literature. He co-authored an article entitled “Invasions in Soft Tissue Jurisprudence” which appeared in Trial Diplomacy Journal in 1992. In that article Dr. Romano and his fellow authors explain how trauma can cause soft tissue injuries and how those injuries can be evaluated by realizing that the readership will be attorneys who need to learn about such matters.

More recently Dr. Romano has been involved in cases where doctors have been investigated by medical boards and/or the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) with regards to the appropriateness of their actions. He has given opinions in such cases and because of his background in pain management he has particular expertise in this area as well.

Dr. Romano has been recognized by both state and federal courts in many jurisdictions as an expert in internal medicine, rheumatology and pain management.
